We had two visitors stop by while we were eating dinner the other night. I told Little B this was probably about as close as we could get to eating dinner with a moose without it being on our plates. 😀
When it comes to venturing out with kids in tow, I’m still learning the ropes. A couple of weeks ago, our Hike it Baby branch here on the Kenai had a hike planned for part of the Russian River Trail in Cooper Landing. The goal was a seven mile round trip hike to the lower lake, with a stop at the falls if there was enough time. While we are continually getting better at embracing the “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing” motto, it didn’t hurt that the weather forecast looked promising. High 40s with sun definitely makes driving two hours for a hike with two {little} kids much more appealing. Since we had just decided the day before that we would be making a last minute venture up to Anchorage to look at a piece of equipment and run some errands, a hike seemed like the perfect way to break up the four hour drive.
Since our move to Alaska, Little B had been sleeping in a travel bed. By the time she was 20 months old, though, we knew it was time for an upgrade. It was January, and her room got chilly at night since our only heat source in our rental home is an oil heater in the living room. With her door closed at night, the heat couldn’t circulate and by morning, the room was downright chilly. Despite her wool sleep sack and cozy jammies, she was starting to wake up regularly around 2am, at which point she’d join Papa B and I in our warm bed. Although at nine months pregnant my sleep quality was already pretty mediocre, her new early morning routine meant none of us were getting a good night’s sleep.
